Alphonso is the mango people wait all year for: rich, perfumed, sunshine-orange, gone too soon every summer. That’s the fruit in this gel, freeze-dried.
Pick it if Alphonso season is the best part of your year.
What’s in it
Honey
Freeze-dried Alphonso mango
Sea salt
02 / 03
Pineapple
Bright and sharp: the fruit that cuts through sweet.
Ripe pineapple is sweet with an edge: juicy, tangy, the fruit that wakes up a plate. Freeze-dried, it’s the fruit in this one.
Pick it if tangy beats sweet for you.
What’s in it
Honey
Freeze-dried pineapple
Sea salt
A little citric acid
03 / 03
Jamun
Deep, tart and very Indian.
Jamun is the monsoon fruit that stains your fingers and your tongue purple: deep, tart, a little astringent. This gel is made with it, freeze-dried.
Pick it if you grew up reaching for jamun in the rains.
What’s in it
Honey
Freeze-dried jamun
Sea salt
Made for your extreme
What are you training for?
A first long run or a fifth marathon block. A demanding ride, a HYROX, a trail you’ve been eyeing all year. Here’s where a sachet earns its place.
01 Long runs and marathon build
The long run.
The alarm goes before the city wakes. Thirty kilometres on the plan, the roads still quiet, the chai stalls shuttered. By the second hour, the pace that felt easy at the start has to be earned.
Why fuel
Carbohydrate is your body’s main fuel during hard exercise, and a long run keeps asking for it. Take a sachet before you set off, then one every 30–45 minutes.
Where it rides
Two or three sachets in a shorts pocket, one for each stretch of the run.
02 Cycling and longer rides
The longer ride.
Three hours out, the highway shoulder gives way to village roads and a climb you didn’t check the profile for. Whatever you need for the rest of the day is already in your pockets.
Why fuel
On the bike you can fuel little and often without stopping. A sachet every 30–45 minutes keeps carbohydrate coming in while the kilometres keep going by.
Where it rides
Jersey back pocket or a top-tube bag.
03 Trail running
The trail goes up.
Switchbacks through the ghats, loose rock underfoot, mist sitting in the valley below. The next village is somewhere over the ridge, and the aid station is whatever you packed.
Why fuel
On a trail, time out matters more than distance, and a climb can double it. Carry fuel for the hours, not the kilometres.
Where it rides
Front pocket of your vest.
04 HYROX and demanding sessions
Eight runs. Eight stations.
The sled arrives exactly when your legs would rather it didn’t. Or it’s a gym session that runs long: intervals, then the work after the work, then one more round because the coach said so.
Why fuel
A race or session that runs past an hour still runs on carbohydrate. One sachet 10–15 minutes before the start, and you begin fuelled.
Where it rides
In your kit bag next to your shoes, ready before the warm-up.
05 Race-day fuelling
Race day, rehearsed.
Bib pinned the night before. Shoes chosen weeks ago. Nothing new on race day, and that includes what you take on the course.
Why fuel
Practise your fuelling in training, never for the first time on race day. Find your rhythm on the long runs, so that on the day it’s just another one.
Where it rides
A pocket or vest for the start line, and the rest exactly where your race plan says.
06 Hiking and long days outdoors
The long day out.
A start in the dark to make the top by mid-morning. A ridge that turns out longer than it looked from the bottom. Lunch is still hours away.
Why fuel
Long days on your feet need steady fuel. A sachet is carbohydrate you can take standing up, when a proper meal is still a long way off.
Where it rides
The lid of your pack or a jacket pocket. Light enough to forget about until you need it.
How to fuel
Before1 sachet, 10–15 min before you start
During1 sachet every 30–45 min on efforts over an hour
Under an hourYou probably don’t need one
Practise your fuelling in training, never for the first time on race day.
Why it works
Short list. Real reasons.
01 Honey for fuel
Carbohydrates are your body’s main fuel during hard exercise, and honey supplies them. Honey is a natural mix of glucose and fructose.
02 Real fruit for flavour
Freeze-dried Alphonso mango, pineapple and jamun give each flavour its identity. No maltodextrin, no artificial colours or flavours.
03 A sachet you can carry
One sachet, one serving. It slips into a pocket, a jersey or a vest and comes out when the effort asks for it.
04 Three flavours to come back to
Mango, pineapple, jamun. Rotate them through a long run, or find the one that’s yours and stick with it.
The founder
From the source to the start line.
I’m Indian, and I live and run in Canada, through weather that doesn’t care what’s on the training plan.
This winter I’m going back to India to meet honey suppliers, make the gels and film the whole journey. I’ll bring the first gels back to Canada and train with them.
A honey energy gel with real freeze-dried Indian fruit, made for long runs, hard rides and other endurance efforts. Three flavours: Alphonso Mango, Pineapple and Jamun.
